Love Wedding Theme

Sometimes choosing a wedding theme is as simple as choosing ‘love’ to be the overall theme on your big day! Don’t worry about choosing an over the top look for your wedding. Choosing your favorite color palette and incorporating your take on love is simple and sweet. I personally love this theme since it allows you to use all sorts of fun love puns like, ‘love is sweet’ for the dessert bar or ‘to love & to hold’ for your drink koozies. This theme is perfect for any Valentine’s Day and pink or red themed weddings or simply for any couple who wants to show how in love they are!

St. Lucia Destination Wedding

st lucia destination wedding photos

Roxanne and Fernando jetted off to St. Lucia for their Caribbean destination wedding!  They landed on the Windjammer Landing Villa Resort as the location for the big day.  With close family and friends by their side, they dinned, danced (oh they danced!) and celebrated with sweet details at every turn.  Roxanne shared with us how they selected their venue.  “We personally choose the location for the wedding at Windjammer Landing in St. Lucia because of our experience there at our high school friends Hassan and Crystal Brown’s wedding in 2010. Fernando really liked how he was able to have a drink with the groom Hassan and his groomsmen just minutes before the ceremony started. We both liked that it was a vacation at an awesome resort on a beautiful island. We had a really great time and wanted to share that experience with our family and friends for our own wedding.”

We love the groom’s  fedora – very vintage island hopping hip, we picture this swanky fella landing via sea plane for his big day.

And this big day had special meaning on the calendar.  “I guess our big theme was our 10 year anniversary of dating which was the reason we picked this date. The theme was included in the tin cans used as flower and candle holders, the Roman numeral X on the buttons for the groom and groomsmen and the card numbers. Ultimately, we wanted to celebrate this milestone with an even bigger milestone which is now the day we got married.”

The bride wore a beautiful gown by J. Crew while her maids dressed in pretty peach.  White the groom wore a button with X in lieu of flowers.  “It was a fun idea my friend Jeremiah Hernandez thought of. I wanted to do something different than flowers for the boutonnieres and he came up with the idea of buttons. I wanted to incorporate the wedding theme of a ten year anniversary and we thought about the roman numeral for 10 which is X. Jeremiah playfully dubbed the guys the X-Men.”

But the best part of her big day look might just have been the beach perfect Converse shoes she wore under her wedding dress!  But these weren’t just a regular pair of sneakers, these shoes had her wedding date detailed on them!

The beach wedding ceremonywas marked by a rustic wooden sign before guests entered to find white benches and lots of wedding details awaiting them.  The couple first planned on a church wedding but later opted for a beach ceremony instead.  “Deciding where to have our ceremony was the first unique challenge because we wanted to have a Catholic ceremony but after months of back and forth with the church in St. Lucia, we decided to go back to the idea of having the ceremony on the beach. It turned out to be a beautiful day and we were really happy with the nontraditional readings and songs we were able to play.”

The bride and groom gave out sunglasses to guests as they arrived.  A box marked with the sign, “future’s so bright, gotta wear shades” was a fun way to kick off the day!

As an activity, they created custom mad libs, that they called “guest libs, wedding edition.”  What a great way to create keepsakes for the couple and involve all their loved ones in the festivities.

The ceremony incorporated personal and cultural traditions.  “The cord that was wrapped around our shoulders is part of the Filipino/ Spanish wedding tradition. The cord symbolizes the couples bond and that they are no longer two but one in their life as a new couple. The cord was made of our colored birthstones in the Philippines and the middle was inscribed with our names and the wedding date by my aunt and sent over before the wedding.”

For the reception, the group headed up to an area of the sand tented and lit for the evening’s festivities.  GQ cocktails and cocktail sticks  helped get the party started!

“The table numbers each had a special date that was significant for us both and following each date was a he said vs a she said. So it gave our guest a look into the events throughout our relationship that lead up to our wedding day.”

Every little detail had a personal touch.  Even the cake topper!  “I really loved our cake topper which my older sister Dr. Riabianca Garcia custom made for us. I really wanted a personal cake topper and didn’t find one that I thought really fit us. So, I asked my sister to make one that featured us and our dog Zion who sadly could not join us in St. Lucia. (Zion was a gift from Fernando for my college graduation. He’s more like a son to us than our dog and quite a character.) This was her first cake topper that she made and I think it came out amazing and just what we wanted!”

Los Cabos, Mexico Destination Wedding

cabo resort weddings

Katie and Mike landed in Cabo, Mexico for their destination wedding (and honeymoon that followed).  This brave couple did not take a site visit prior to the week of the wedding, so they entrusted their big day in Sarai and Martha from Signature Event Consulting and Design to make sure everything was perfect from afar.  Katie shared with us the insight that led to this location.  “Before we were even engaged, Mike and I already knew that we wanted to have a destination wedding. Having spent ten years living in Mexico City as a child, I knew that this was our number one choice for the locale. While Mike had his heart set on a beach, I had hopes for a wedding at a sprawling hacienda. Cabo was so beautiful that it was the perfect destination- and our wedding venue, Hacienda, was truly the best of both worlds; we had a gorgeous hacienda filled with character AND it was right on the water. Our dreams as two Americans hosting an authentic Mexican wedding were only achieved because of the understanding, dedication, and creative genius of our wedding planners Sarai and Martha.  From the paleta cart on the dance floor to the tacos al pastor as people left, it was the wedding of our dreams filled with gorgeous detail.”

Then we asked Martha and Sarai how they pulled it off with the couple from afar.  It is important to note that Katie and Mike did not have the opportunity to travel to Cabo before the wedding for a site visit or at all! Keep in mind, we meet most of our couples at least once and often many more times before the big day! Though we shared many emails, conference calls and skype chats we met Katie and Mike when they arrived in Cabo just days before the wedding! But, we were already great friends! We had established a great relationship and they completely trusted in us and our process.”  And for this couple, that process was all about finding inspiration within their lives and translating it into the event.  “Katie is an avid reader and an enterprising traveler! Having spent some years in Mexico City and Madrid, she is fascinated by and has a real passion for the Mexican and Spanish cultures!  The floral ceremonial arch was a vision first inspired by Katie’s passions. It was a labor of love and a collaborative creative undertaking between Katie, myself and floral designer Pina Hernandez, and it became a real focal point of the wedding. The arch was an interpretation of an image of the entranceway to a Parisian restaurant. Using this image as our guide, we decided to create a wooden structure with lavender floral accents and incorporate inspirational quotes about love from Mexican musicians and writers (some of Katie’s favorites)! We have to give credit to our amazing floral designer, Pina, the wood structure was built exclusively for us in Pina’s studio by her husband, a talented carpenter! And Pina helped to design the stunning floral decor and make Katie’s vision a beautiful reality and a unique creation we were all so proud of!”

“We also incorporated fun accents and authentic Mexican details to continue with the Mexican fiesta theme, without being expected or excessive. We included mini papel picado, a traditional Mexican craft that incorporates laser-cut paper in elaborate designs (Katie’s a huge fan!) as escort cards.”

But weddings, destination or not, don’t always come without a hiccup or two.  “Six months prior to the wedding we encountered a serious challenge: We had to find a new wedding venue for Katie and Mike! The original venue announced they would be closing for internal projects and could no longer accommodate Katie and Mike’s group. Of course it was essential to move fast to relocate, but we also felt it was important to find a location that still resonated with Katie and Mike’s initial vision.  The new location would have to be a beach front property that would guarantee privacy and allow for wedding festivities to continue late into the night! Katie and Mike chose Hacienda Cocina & Cantina. In fact, despite the initial stress of relocating, in the end we all felt it was the perfect place!  The only difficulty at the Hacienda was working to create an intimate setting for the ceremony, where the beach is longer than it is wide. By simply repositioning the arrangement of the chairs, we made their guests feel cozy, without being cramped!”

“Cabo exceeded our expectations and will always hold a special place in our hearts.” – Katie and Mike.

Destination Wedding Signs

Wedding signs aren’t necessarily a new concept, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun!  We love a little personality in a wedding sign, especially when it reflects the two of you or the destination wedding location you’ve landed on.  How about a mojito bar with original flavors chalked on a sign?!  Or a cute how to for your petal tossers!  Don’t just mark the spot with your wedding sign, use it as another opportunity to share your love of the location and of each other in ink (or paint)!
