Stingray City, Grand Cayman Trash the Dress

cayman luxury charters Stingray City, Grand Cayman Trash the DressIt’s day two of our “day after” wedding shoot on Grand Cayman and today our darling bride and groom models get wet!  Cristin and Dave braved the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean Sea and swam with the stingrays, wedding dress and all!  They were such amazing and willing participants and the stingrays were hamming it up for the cameras too!  Trash the dress takes on a whole new meaning when wild animals are involved!  But these unusual creatures quickly became more like pets (they meet several thousand people a week so they are quite tame).  And don’t worry, no people or rays were harmed during our shoot!

To start, we dropped anchor on the Cayman Elusion out in the ocean off the coast of Grand Cayman.  Then our beautiful couple took the plunge, literally, right into the breathtakingly beautiful Caribbean waters.  The talented and thrill-seeking photographer, Laura Grier from Beautiful Day Photography captured it all sitting on a Sea-Doo in the choppy waters nearby.trash the dress photos Stingray City, Grand Cayman Trash the DressOnce Dave and Cristin “trashed” their couture, we took a quick ride over to Stingray City, a sandbar in the Cayman Islands where stingrays and tourists alike congregate and mingle.  But brides and grooms?  Now this isn’t something we see everyday!  Both bride and groom were very, very brave for this shoot!adventure wedding photography Stingray City, Grand Cayman Trash the DressOur photographers jumped right in with the rays, some with underwater video equipment (videos to come later) and otherwise, their wedding cameras were just above water as they hoped not to get them wet!  Well, the rays got a little playful and a splash or two made it onto a lens, but otherwise all parties were a-okay by the end of the shoot!trash the dress stingray city Stingray City, Grand Cayman Trash the DressThe rays are so accustomed to people, you can even feed them and give them a little kiss.  Though at times they looked like something from another planet, they acted like they were part of this new family.  Talk about a photo to hang up back at home!stingray city trash the dress Stingray City, Grand Cayman Trash the DressWhat do you think?  Would you dare something only thrill seekers do for your trash the dress session?  Just remember, we took every safety precaution; if you decide to get a bit adventurous with a trash the dress session, be sure to be safe first and foremost!stingray city grand cayman Stingray City, Grand Cayman Trash the DressAn enormous thank you to Danielle Cococcia of Crystal Blue Weddings for putting together an amazing dream team for a fantastic day out at sea!  And to everyone who made this shoot possible…if you’re headed to Grand Cayman, these talented folks are people you should certainly call on!

Grand Cayman Wedding Shoot

Starfish Point Weddings1 Grand Cayman Wedding ShootA destination wedding often means ample time at a unique and picturesque setting and hopefully with a destination wedding photographer in tow.  So why not take advantage of that time (and team) and get the most out of your locale?  A “day after” wedding shoot is becoming increasingly popular.  It’s when the newlyweds and photographer get out and about for a day of fun and photos without the stress of a timeline and pressure of the ceremony.  Destination weddings are the PERFECT time and place for a “day after” shoot!  Get out and see the island, take time away just for the two of you to sightsee, really enjoy your environment and marvel at all that’s around you.  And while you’re at it, why not ask your photographer to capture it all?  That’s exactly what we did with today’s inspiration photo shoot.starfish point wedding Grand Cayman Wedding ShootWhen we jetted off to the Cayman Islands a few weeks back for the Engage!11 conference, we thought why not take advantage of the stunning setting and put together a day after adventure!?!  So today and tomorrow, you’ll see what our fantastic team came up with.  The setting – a dreamy day out on the Cayman Elusion, a Cayman Luxury Charter (the perfect way to get away the day after your “I do’s”).  The stops – Starfish Point, a secluded beach where starfish are in abundance and Stingray City – a sandbar off the island where dozens of stingrays congregate.  Our plan was to capture those more casual bride and groom shots once the wedding was done and end the day with a very brave and adventurous trash the dress session, with stingrays and all!  Our models, Dave and Cristin (Cristin was Miss Cayman Islands 2010) were so amazing, we were so lucky to get to work with them!  And of course it didn’t hurt that we had the fabulous adventure-seeking destination wedding photographer, Laura Grier of Beautiful Day Photography to capture it all!weddings at starfish point Grand Cayman Wedding ShootCristin wore a beautiful dress by Kirstie Kelly (chiffon flows perfectly in a windy locale and made for some great shots floating in the water).  Her look, paired with the neutral suit worn by Dave and the white sands and crystal clear water nearby made the colors of the sky and trees around really pop.  Her bouquet incorporated local flowers and even shells from the island, and was created by the talented local Cayman team at Celebrations.starfish point cayman islands Grand Cayman Wedding ShootWe had the best time out on the ocean and at the beach for this shoot!  Imagine getting away from it all after the wedding and taking some time just for two, yet you’re back by dinner to continue the celebration with friends and family still on island!starfish point grand cayman Grand Cayman Wedding ShootYou can even get a little cheeky…here Dave and Cristin channeled their inner music video divas as they headed back to the boat by Sea-Doo.cayman islands wedding Grand Cayman Wedding ShootWhile you’re out for the day, keep in mind you might just find the perfect Christmas or holiday card photo or the ideal thank you photo for the many thanks you’ll be sending to those who traveled near and far to be with you on your big day.  If you plan ahead and bring a sign or prop or two, you’ll have that much more to work with when planning out your stationery when you touch down back at home.  Just remember to have fun with it, whatever you do!!  This is after all, the day after…no pressure, just fun and time together out of the hotel to see what your chosen destination has to offer.just married signs Grand Cayman Wedding ShootStay tuned tomorrow for photos of the grand finale – Christin and Dave dive in with the stingrays!

And a big hug and giant thanks to the amazing professionals who produced this fantastic day!  Crystal Blue Weddings, the go-to for all things Cayman weddings organized an epic on island team!!   And thanks to those from the states who packed up their gear and goods and joined forces with the amazing local companies.  Such a fun day!
