Cliffside Destination Wedding in Pescadero, Baja, Mexico

Mey and Jason said “I do” at their intimate destination wedding at the beautiful cliffside property of Arriba de la Roca, located in Pescadero, Mexico, about 45 minutes outside of Cabo.  Not long after the hurricane, 18 friends and family traveled with the Texas couple to a place very near and dear to their hearts.  And the bride and groom shared their wonderful story with us!

“We fell in love with Todos Santos, Mexico 3 years ago after trying a random Living Social coupon.  It is unspoiled beauty with unmatched hospitality  – minus the crowds and commercialization.”

“We specifically chose Arriba de la Roca because of the owners’ story.  Shelby and Maurico left corporate America and poured their life savings into building a boutique hotel. You can’t help but feel the love emanating from their property – and feel good about being a part of their dream. A testament to how we know we chose the right place? We had our wedding about a month and a half after the largest hurricane to ever make landfall in Baja California’s history devastated the area – and we owe our ability to be able to have our dream wedding in Todos Santos due to Shelby’s and Maurcio’s hard work.”

Jason’s favorite moment:  “Our first look was absolutely my favorite moment.  The sensory overload was indescribable – from the sun setting on the Pacific on one side – the majestic Sierra Lagunas on the other side – and then Mey in her beautiful dress.  I hate to be clichéd but I lost it…masculinity aside, I couldn’t help but feel like the luckiest guy in the world because she picked me.”

“Our inspiration was our relationship (and how it started unconventionally) and the location of the wedding.  We wanted to make sure that it was romantic and intimate and elegant but still laid back and unforced.  It was important that our wedding was not cookie-cutter and many of the details were very symbolic of who we are and what we enjoy. For example, our “sign-in” was a surfboard because Jason was a surfer. Our table numbers were framed photos of our guests, who were our closest friends and family. Our knot-tying ceremony was a nod to Jason’s time in the Navy. We opted for a bonfire with s’mores instead of dancing so we could enjoy time on the beach with our friends.”

Mey’s favorite moment: “I loved surprising Jason with the Mariachi band.  While I hate Mariachi and already told him no – our wedding planner and I schemed to make it happen.  The pure joy on my husband’s face was unforgettable!  He was like a kid on Christmas morning.”

“The best advice we can give is to have an amazing wedding planner!  While some may balk at the cost, it is absolutely worth it so you can enjoy the entire process.  Having a talented and patient wedding planner to coordinate with vendors who do not necessarily operate (or respond) to type-A expectations and to handle all the details so you can just enjoy the wedding was priceless.  From coordinating travel arrangements of guests to helping purchase/bring items and of course, running the show on the day of, our wedding planner took care of all the details so we could focus on the big picture.  Our wedding planner even presented us with a back-up to have a wedding in San Diego once we found out about the hurricane.  We owe our dream come true to our wedding planner, Sarah Kee.”
