One of the bridal designers we just love for destination wedding dresses is the talented Elizabeth Fillmore.  Her gowns are unique, often have beautiful lace and detailing but never take a shape meant for a big city ballroom.  Her dresses are perfect for a getaway elopement, a wedding in the woods, on the beach, or even somewhere in Europe.  Take a look at her latest collection for 2013, just off the runway.  Love the back detailing (and open backs) and even the sleeves!

Destination Wedding Dress Shopping with The Stylish Bride

Shopping for a wedding dress is an exciting and sometimes daunting task.  Add in the factors at play for a destination wedding and you’ve likely got a longer list of requirements before you find “the one.”  So to help you with the process, we called on our friend Julie Sabatino from The Stylish Bride to help get you down the aisle in the picture perfect wedding dress that’s right for you.  We asked her what to keep in mind, what trends are in and out, and what she’s loving in bridal couture this season.julie sabatino the stylish brideJF: When planning a destination wedding, what should a bride keep in mind when shopping for her gown?

Julie: Every bride should consider her personal style, body type, budget and type of wedding she is having, but a destination bride needs to pay particular attention to the weight and fabric of the gown.  First and foremost, you don’t want to be hot or uncomfortable.  This automatically rules out fabrics such as Duchesse, Mikado, and double faced satin. You also want to make sure that there isn’t too much volume that can weigh the dress down and make you hot.

JF:  Any destination wedding dress trends you’ve seen lately that you think are great ideas for upcoming weddings?

Julie: One trend that is just emerging in the bridal world is the high/low hem.  These dresses tend to have the front hem mid calf and the back in a traditional train.  I love this for beach weddings, particularly those on the sand, because it looks nice while making it SO much easier to walk around.

JF:  Any wedding dress designers tailor made for a destination bride that you would recommend?

Julie: Elizabeth Fillmore does amazing dresses that are well suited to destination weddings because of how light they are, and the amazing fabrics that she uses. She is famous for her crepe back satin dresses and also her use of lace and chiffon.

Jenny Lee as well because she makes classic, elegant dresses that are easy to wear and flattering to many body types.  They are light and airy that can be worn on a beach, but with a little more shape than a slip gown.

Stay tuned for more dress ideas and fashion tips from Julie Sabatino at The Stylish Bride who will be back with us tomorrow on the blog.  Thanks Julie!

Destination Wedding Dresses

It’s Friday and what better time to melt over a few fabulous fashions and destination wedding dresses?  Chances are if you just got engaged, you’re on the hunt for that perfect match in a gown.  So here are a few wedding dress trends that go great with a destination wedding.

Trumpet Silhouette:  This shape allows you to move more than a mermaid gown but isn’t as big of a skirt as a ball gown.  The perfect combination for a destination wedding dress!

Tulle:  Tulle is lightweight and airy in case you’re in a hot climate.  It also blows beautifully in the wind when layered in large skirt or holds its shape when tightly dressed around your figure.

Lace:  Lace will always be a wedding dress favorite, but in this case it can also express the culture of the location you’ve opted to get married at.  Getting married in Spain?  Spanish lace to show off your flair!  French lace looks great at a more formal affair and a little hint of lace can dress up an otherwise more casual destination wedding look.

Cap Sleeves:  Windy beach weather, possible rain climate, or church appropriate is a beautifully soft and romantic cap sleeve.  Be respectful of your religious rules or simply cover up a bit from the elements and a cap sleeve leaves him wanting more (in a good way).

Low Back:  One way to get a sexy sophisticated wedding dress look is with a low back.  Just think, during your ceremony guests will likely be looking at your back so why not show it off!?  …If you’re event is appropriate for showing a little skin that is!

Happy shopping ladies!  And check back soon for our destination wedding dress galleries coming this spring!

Elizabeth Fillmore Wedding Dresses 2012

new Elizabeth Fillmore wedding dressesOkay, okay, I just couldn’t resist one more day of super fabulous bridal fashion from the recent runways of NYC.  Elizabeth Fillmore, a slightly lesser-known designer but one who always has such meticulous detail in her oh-so one-of-a-kind style that I couldn’t not share these new wedding dresses of hers.  They are all perfect for…what else?  A destination wedding of course!

Her lovely lace looks are befitting of a princess, here or abroad!  And with a selection of gowns from short to a sexy (but dance-able) train, there are quite a few options in this collection to go quickly from ceremony to reception to even an after party or getaway.  These silhouettes look spectacular on a slimmer frame, but don’t be afraid to give one a shot if you have a bigger bust too!
