Incredible Cancun Wedding Location: Nizuc Resort & Spa

Have you ever been in a hotel room that you just didn’t want to leave? I’ve been lucky enough a few times, but never in one that I loved so much I didn’t want to leave it the entire time I was at the hotel! Well, until now. Nizuc Resort and Spa, located just on the edge of Cancun, Mexico has plenty to keep you busy but the rooms are so spectacular, you don’t ever want to leave to do any of it!

I recently touched down into one of their Garden Pool Villas, and they are, as they sound, complete with a pool inside the walls of your villa! With glass walls that open up the bedroom into the exterior, outdoor living rooms and showers, and a private pool for each, this truly is indoor-outdoor living at it’s finest. There may have been an indoor shower too, but why use it when the outdoor rain shower is calling your name?! Turn on your tunes (your iPhone connects with the speaker system throughout the villa property) and soak in the tube drawn for you by your butler and life doesn’t get much better than that (especially for honeymooners).

But Nizuc goes beyond just epic hotel rooms. The property is ideal for destination weddings too! With incredible infinity pools and decks perfect for private parties and a beach property fit for a fabulous Mexican fiesta, you can say “I do” indoors in their massive ballroom space overlooking the lagoon or outdoors in one of their iconic Caribbean wedding locations.

And no matter which venue you opt for, you can count on the weddings staff taking exceptional care of you. You may stay up late celebrating, but I witnessed them staying up so much later, just to make sure every detail was absolutely perfect for the pair tying the knot.

From a fabulous spa to a to-die-for daily breakfast buffet (complete with guacamole, of course), to complimentary paddle boarding, snorkeling and kayaking on its two beaches, Nizuc has it all. And once you’ve done it all, remember it also has oodles of romance with fire torches burning nightly, sunken lounges among the water installations, and the utmost of privacy in your villa, whether in the garden or overlooking the ocean from high above.  This might just be the sexiest hotel on earth!

Terra Nostra

If you want a modern, sexy place to honeymoon or host a destination wedding, then look to the outskirts of Cancun to Nizuc Resort and Spa where you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a place that couldn’t possibly be so easy to get to – just minutes from a major airport but miles from ordinary.

Romantic Blush Pink Beach Wedding in Riviera Maya

Pilly and Mat said “I do” to a destination wedding in Riviera Maya at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya Resort. The couple opted for a beautiful blush pink and gold palette to reflect perfectly against the white sands and blue waters on the coast of Mexico. Pilly gave us a peek into their big day and the plans that led up to all of these magical moments.

Since we live in Florida, we decided to choose Mexico because it’s close, but far enough away. We researched some resorts we liked in Mexico & narrowed it down to two resorts that we liked. One of them being located in Playa del Carmen Mexico, which was Grand Velas Riviera Maya.  We actually decided to vacation at Grand Velas Riviera Maya a year before our wedding & then went to scout another resort in the area. We loved Grand Velas Riviera Maya so much while vacationing there, we knew it would be the perfect place for our wedding.  Grand Velas Riviera Maya is a foodie resort & we’re both foodies so great food & drinks are very important to us.

Favorite moments from the day? There are too many to choose!  Reading each other’s letters, the first look, the ceremony, the first dance or just the whole day actually.  We can honestly say the day was perfect & felt so magical.  Honestly, we were both able to relax & enjoy the entire day as a whole pretty much stress free.  It has been the best day of our lives thus far & we were lucky enough to share it with our closest friends & family.

For our wedding favors, we decided to go with maracas to tie in with Mexico & we thought they would be really fun & useful for guests during the reception.  We wanted to personalize the maracas so they were all hand painted by some of the girls in our wedding colors & traveled with us all the way from Florida to Mexico as guest favors.

Advice for other destination wedding couples? Once we arrived to the resort, we enjoyed every single moment & was completely stress free for the wedding. Make sure to be very organized & plan things way in advance.  We sent lots emails with pictures of what we wanted & how we envisioned everything to look.  We were very specific about what we wanted. Keep track of all emails & communication with the resort, wedding planner & vendors.  Mail save the dates & invitations out early since it’s a destination wedding, you need to give people enough time to plan. Be on top of everything & don’t wait last minute for final details. Do all the hard work & planning back home through email that way you only have to show up.  Most importantly, enjoy your day stress free. :)

We stayed at the resort for a few days after our wedding, but we have yet to go on a “real” honeymoon.  We are planning to honeymoon in Paris eventually.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Colorful Destination Wedding at Secrets Akumal, Riviera Maya

Rebecca and Herman wed an in a colorful destination wedding in Akumal, Mexico, just an hour south of Cancun. We asked the couple to share their big day details with us:

We used the beach and tropical destination as a backdrop for inspiration, but wanting to add some element of glamour that comes with a wedding and Secrets Akumal in Mexico had all that for us. Our inspiration was colors of the oceans (blues, sea greens) and metallic (golds) We were so thankful that our wedding could actually take place outside on the beach, with the reception poolside because it was exactly what we had envisioned.

Favorite moments from the day?

Becky: I loved the feeling I got right before I walked down the aisle. When I walked down the path to where I was to line up, and saw everyone in their seats, along with the entire set up of the ceremony location – the drapery on the gazebo, the chair corsages on the aisle chairs, the rustic aisle runner, the ceremony music….coupled with the amazing weather (it had been raining on and off all week and it was the first day it didn’t rain at all!)…I also felt at that moment that my grandmother was with me and watching over me from heaven. I saw Herman and I just knew I was where I was supposed to be and everything came together that day like I had envisioned!

Herman: The minister did an amazing job with our ceremony. She had a way of speaking to us like she has known us for years and people said that was one of the most beautiful ceremonies they had ever seen! The moment we said our vows was one of my favorite moments and I will remember that forever.

Details they loved?

The Mexican flare! We loved Spanish table numbers & novia/novio chair signs! Since we were in Mexico, we wanted to tie in some of the Spanish culture. Along the same vein, we loved having the Mariachi trio play at our cocktail hour. It really helped add to the ambiance of the day. We also loved the Hola welcome bags and the maraca favors.

We also loved the string lights that were strung across the palm trees at the reception. It was a must have for us and something we were willing to splurge on for the reception. It really added a special element of coziness to the reception, but also made for some fantastic pictures!

We often ask newlyweds for advice for other destination wedding couples:

Listen to your hearts and make decisions based on what the two of you want. Everyone will have an opinion on how things should be or what decisions you should make, but make it what the two of you envisioned! The process is supposed to be fun! So try to take it all in an enjoy planning it together. Make a list of your must haves in order to help you stick to your budget. When you add up everything you want, you will likely be way over your budget so knowing what you are willing to splurge on and what you don’t necessarily need will help you make crucial decisions.

If you’re looking for a private place to honeymoon with easy access from the US and an expansive destination wedding deck to boot for a grand getaway with all your loved ones, then Rosewood Mayakoba is your answer.

mayakoba resorts

Set both along the beach in Riviera Maya and the lagoon of Mayakoba, you get the best of both worlds – sun and sand and the tranquil sounds of nature at its finest along the lagoon.

Rosewood Mayakoba destination wedding locations riviera maya

I had the opportunity to experience this magical place not long ago and it truly does offer honeymooners all you could ask for and destination weddings just what you need.

There’s a large palapa on the beach perfect for a wedding reception (for up to 300 people!). It’s open air, beautifully created with weddings in mind, comes complete with an outdoor lounge area, and of course, the beach just a step away for a sunset ceremony.

For a rehearsal dinner or perhaps a party not on the water, the lovely La Ceiba Garden is the place to be. Incredibly unique, this outdoor event space comes complete with an outdoor kitchen, flooring to dance and dine on, a fire and water fountain, and better yet, a fully functioning vegetable garden to celebrate within. That’s right, each morning chefs at Rosewood Mayakoba cultivate and pick what they need to cook with (true farm to table style) and come nightfall, you get to dine and dance under the stars surrounded by the sweet smells of all the local ingredients you could imagine.

But the best part about Rosewood Mayakoba might just be the overwater suites (I highly recommend those on the lagoon). You’ll arrive to your room by private boat, where you’ll be greeted by your smiling butler, waiting to comfort your every need throughout your stay. You’ll enjoy a plunge pool on your balcony, lounges and dinner area for two al fresco and inside you’ll find a beautifully minimalistic suite complete with telescope to stargaze at night. Choose from one of two showers (indoor and outdoor) or a beautiful footed tub to unwind after a day at the beach or visit to the nearby Mayan Ruins of Tulum.

Today and over the course of the next few days we’re going to be sharing some incredible destination wedding inspiration from the recent Engage!15: Nizuc wedding business summit where we got to see firsthand some of the best of the best in weddings in Mexico and the US.

This spectacular beach welcome party was on the sand in front of the amazing Nizuc Resort and Spa, where the conference was held.

Local wedding professionals in the Cancun area came together to show us what a truly fabulous fiesta is like – perfect for a destination wedding in Mexico.

Pillows, runners, and textiles all around us were woven in this colorful motif that fit the locale perfectly and really infused the local culture into the event.

But my favorite might have been the mariachis!

The motif was also found on the custom bar, right next to a speciality tequila bar for guests to enjoy the local flavors.

The bright flower colors mimicked the fabrics and helped carry the theme throughout the beach.

There were even tiny birds telling fortunes and futures for us!

But the most unique design element was probably the giant, lit ‘tacos’ sign in the sand, where guests stood for photo ops throughout the evening.  As the night when on and the sun went down, this became a guest favorite for sure!

It wouldn’t be Engage without a few surprises, like fireworks at the end of the evening!  We stood on the beach and had our own private show!

To say this party started the week off right is an understatement.  The night was incredible!  And there’s so much more to come so be sure to check back tomorrow when we show you more from the wedding industry event, Engage!15: Nizuc – with lots of destination wedding ideas ahead!
