6 Destination Wedding Ideas from Engage!17: Nizuc

wedding pinatas

We’re back with more amazing destination wedding ideas from Engage!17: Nizuc in Cancun, Mexico. If you’re hosting a destination wedding in Mexico (or anywhere really), we’ve got some incredible new ideas to dazzle your guests and celebrate in style! The talented team of international event professionals that came together to make this week happen shared with us the best of the best available to couples and we’re bringing a few of those fabulous ideas to you!

1. To start, I’m absolutely obsessed with this mini metallic pinatas that were filled with party favors for us after a fiesta. Such a fun idea! The pinatas were heart shaped, fitting for a wedding, but you could opt for a more personal theme and shape too. Fill them with small hangover essentials, local candies, or anything that your guests might enjoy (even a cocktail kit) and the kid in each of them will be delighted to get this party favor, just like I was!

2. You’ve heard us say time and time again that we love it when couples infuse the destination into their big day and that was no different at Engage. As guests arrived to the posh property, Nizuc Resort & Spa, we were greeted with a mezcal tasting to try some of the local flavors of the region and kick off the week with a celebratory cocktail (while learning about it too, of course). When a wedding weekend starts like this, you know you’re in for a good time ahead.

3. Engage also brought out the personal details throughout the parties – in the form of custom decals! From staircase logos to decals on the restroom mirrors, every opportunity to share their message was used in a fun, playful and surprising way with something as simple and affordable as a temporary decal. Try it!

4. The entertainment at Engage is also something spectacular to see. If you’re having a pool party for your welcome party or post-wedding brunch, consider dancers like these and synchronized swimmers. For those of us that were simply enjoying the sun and not the swim, it was so fun to have a show to watch throughout. Plus these incredible dancers (from Elan Artists) certainly encouraged guests to get into the pool and make a splash at this party!

5. I love it when guests are asked to dress in theme, though sometimes for the actual wedding that can be a bit much. This particular party was not a wedding, but a Dia de los Muertos themed pre-party where guests dressed the part, but so did the entertainment. Consider dressing entertainers as over-the-top guests and everyone will have something to talk about!

6. When hosting a beach wedding party what’s better than a form of entertainment you can really only enjoy outdoors!? At this fete, Elan Artists incorporated fire dancers from afar so we were safe from the heat but close to the action on the sand. This is a great way to entertain your guests during dinner or lead them to a post-wedding bonfire!

Designing a destination wedding can be a lot of fun, and with these extra ideas included, your wedding is sure to be the talk of your travelers for plenty of time to come!

This pretty pink and green party was created by the local Cancun destination wedding experts and production team at Canteiro Weddings, who designed floral centerpieces complete with fresh fruit and provided all the rentals to match flawlessly. And these fun and festive linens from Nuage Designs finished the look and tied it all together seamlessly.

A post-wedding brunch or even daytime destination wedding typically doesn’t include a big band and lots of dancing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t entertain your guests! To coordinate with the design of the day, Elan Artists showcased their own style of dancers that encouraged a conga line without needing a dance floor to get the party started! Engage did a fantastic job of keeping this day event relaxed yet still festive, the perfect combination if you’re designing your day-after wedding fete.

Stay tuned for more from Engage!17: Nizuc tomorrow when we showcase the best destination wedding ideas from the week. And don’t forget, if you’re a wedding professional, sign up today for 2018 before it’s too late! We hope to see you there!

The Perfect Beach Wedding Welcome Party

wedding bars

We’re back with more amazing destination wedding inspiration from the recent Engage Summit. This one took place in Cancun, Mexico at the modern and oh-so special Nizuc Resort & Spa. Engage!17: Nizuc is a conference unlike any other, designed for event professionals to gain insights into our businesses but also to get new ideas to take back to couples like you.

Nizuc is nestled on two picture-perfect beaches so it was only fitting that the week kicked off with a beach party that would have made the most amazing wedding welcome party in Mexico too.

The look was created by local floral, production and rental masters, Canteiro Weddings, who custom built the furniture, designed the floral and even created this massive tequila bar in theme for the night.

The look was all white (with hints of gold) which I love for a welcome party or rehearsal dinner. In this case the guests didn’t dress in all white, it was fiesta themed for us, but even an entirely white dress code can be fun while the bride and/or groom dresses in a color of their choosing that pops against the neutral palette.

One of my favorite details of this beach wedding party were these metallic pinatas as part of the decor! We didn’t actually break into them but they reflected the location and the look of the party with perfection.

This tequila bar built by Canteiro Weddings was the hit of the party! What better way to get your Mexico destination wedding started than with a little tequila or mezcal tasting served up at a bar in theme with the cocktails?!

But the theme of this party wasn’t just carried out by the cocktails, even the entertainment by Elan Artists paid tribute to the culture surrounding us – a great way to show your guests what you love about the region you pick for your destination wedding.

And what beach party would be complete without the magic of fireworks to finish off the night?! Engage always finds ways to surprise and dazzle their guests and these fireworks certainly did that for me! A great way to end the evening!

Stay tuned for more amazing destination wedding ideas to come in the following days with new trends, themes, ideas and even swag for your destination wedding guests all from our week at Engage!17: Nizuc.

And for the wedding professionals out there, registration opens this week for the next four events in 2018. The summits sell out fast so mark your calendars and make sure to be a part of the party this year!

A Mexican Fiesta Wedding You’ll Want to Celebrate At!

mexico-destination-wedding-riviera-maya

If you’re entertaining the idea of a destination wedding in Mexico, then this story is for you!  On a trip in 2017 to one of my favorite properties in the world, Rosewood Mayakoba, I got to experience a Mexican fiesta rivaled by no other!  The colors, the cocktails, the food carts around the garden, the live mariachi music and the churros, oh the fresh churros!!  This dinner was to-die-for!  And the decor was perfection.  For colorful wedding inspiration, consider a fiesta outdoors among the stars like this one at the famed Rosewood Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, Mexico.  Whether you opt for the idea to be used as a rehearsal dinner or the big day, your guests will love the cultural experience you give them and the celebration that is sure to follow when arriving at a place as decked out as this!

Events & Weddings in Cancun are credited with these fantastic bars and event accessories that really make a destination wedding in Mexico FUN!  How about a tequila and mezcal tasting during your cocktail hour?  Learn about the local flavors while you delight on the taste!

Our dinner was under the stars and twinkle lights and was filled with vibrant orchids and flags overhead. Incredibly talented (and equally as kind), local floral designer Vanessa Jaimes Floral Design set the stage for this evening with her beautiful bright pops of color and details throughout.  One of my favorite things about a wedding in Riviera Maya are all the amazing professional talents in the region.  If you wed in Riviera Maya, you will not be disappointed by the beauty your team can create (like this!).

As guests went from station to station, trying fresh tortillas and churros too, mariachis serenaded us with oodles of fanfare.

A Beach Wedding in Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Nichole and Jimmy said “I do” in Isla Mujeres, Mexico in a beautiful beach ceremony. We asked the couple to share their destination wedding experience with us and here’s what they had to say!

A love of travel is one of the first things that drew us together. When we knew this would be forever, a destination wedding just felt natural. We have visited several parts of the Caribbean, but never had the chance to bring our closest family and friends along for the adventure. So we thought it would be perfect to go somewhere new, for the first time, with the people we love. After researching a few locations, we fell in love with Isla Mujeres. And the rest is history!

Writing our vows together (separately of course) the morning of the wedding was really special. With all the planning, and coordinating with our guests, it was really special to be able to put every thing aside so we could really get into the mindset of what we were there for. We will always remember sharing those quiet moments overlooking the sea.

We went back and forth on the idea of a first look. Our wonderful photographers convinced us that it would be worth it, and we’re glad we listened. I (Jimmy) wept big happy tears when I turned to see my bride for the first time. We laughed (and cried) and held each other on the beach, amazed that we had finally made it to the big day.

(Nichole) Before I even met Jimmy, I knew my niece Emma and Nephew Avery would someday be in my wedding. It was perfect that Avery was three and Emma four. They truly were the stars at the wedding. I took great care into talking with them beforehand about what they would be doing. Most importantly I bribed them. I bought Emma a princess dress For motivation and Avery was easy, he just loves chocolate. . Looking back at the photos make my heart swell with gratitude. They are my babies.

(Jimmy) Our flower girl and ring boy stole the show when they came down the aisle. Everyone turned and gave a collective “awww!” when they saw the pair, and something special happened. Avery is normally fearless and loves being center of attention. But in that moment, he froze. Emma, on the other hand, is typically very shy. But in that moment, she took charge. Noticing Avery had fallen behind, Emma went back and grabbed his hand. She led him up to the front, but he was still petrified. By this time, I was crouched down to his level with arms out. “Come on Bubba, I’m right here!” He sprinted into my arms, and held on long enough for me to tell him he did a great job and that I loved him. Then he ran straight for mommy. To this day I still laugh thinking about the whole thing, and one of my favorite photos is from that moment with Avery.

Unlike other brides I only knew what I didn’t want. A google and pinterest search of beach wedding tends to bring up “beach themed” weddings. And I knew I didn’t want that. Being a destination wedding, I didn’t have complete say in every detail. I went with more of a simple decor that if I needed to DIY, I could do it. My favorite decor was the gold pineapples that lined my sandy aisle and the ones we turned into centerpieces. Other than that I knew I wanted dinner on the beach with sand under my feet and bistro lights hanging beneath the palm trees. It truly was simple decor and I put more energy into making sure our guests had fun! And us too! I was adamant about making sure I had fun! After all I did all the hard work for it

There was a special moment in every single thing we did that day. It was all so special. And I made sure to take a step back throughout and take it all in. Watching our friends and family sit for dinner on the beach, out under the stars was sweet. Their joy and laughter will stay with me forever. In that moment it made all of the hard work and stress worth it. This is what life is all about. And then transitioning from the fire dancers to the dance floor. We had a very busy night! In our photos it’s evident of the fun everyone is having. Dancing the night away despite the heat and humidity was magical.

Advice for other destination wedding couples?

Finding a good wedding planner is essential! Especially if you’ve never visited the destination before. I loved being able to enjoy the entire day with all of the small details being taken care of. Organization is key even with a planner. Be sure to run through all of the specifics that are a must for you. Several important details were missed by my planners and I wish I had communicated exactly what I was expecting.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!
