Get Married at the Beach Outside of Rome, Italy

roman coast luxury villa

When you think of a destination wedding in Rome, you probably don’t think of doing it at the beach.  But why not?!?!  With a villa with grounds as gorgeous as this, you might just rethink your destination I do at the sea!  Located about 45 minutes outside of the center of Rome, Italy, Hotel La Posta Vecchia is a historic property on the ocean, one that J. Paul Getty himself used to reside in (and some say still does).

The lovely lawns overlooking the water make for exceptional event locations for a formal (or even beachy-inspired) wedding.  The regal nature of the building seems to lend itself to a chic black tie affair, peppered between a vacation on the sand on the days leading up to and after the big day.

If you’re a history buff, then you’re in luck, you’ll find many of J. Paul Getty’s personal belongings and collection in the home (and you can even stay in his master suite if you so chose).  The hotel rooms are each appointed with his antiques, no two are alike.  If you’re looking for something a bit more modern, you won’t find it here, but you can ask for one of the suites with a recently renovated bathroom (we also suggest rooms with an ocean view for an epic sunset sighting).

This Leading Hotels of the World property also boasts a Michelin-starred restaurant, an indoor pool, intimate spa, stunning outdoor dining spot and plenty of places to sneak off into the garden with your fiance for some quiet time.

And when you’ve had enough of that quiet time (or of your guests), head into the city for a day of shopping, sightseeing, or even a honeymoon just around the corner with a completely different pace and space without the time and cost of touching down somewhere far, far away.

Hotel Hassler – Where the Stars Stay in Rome

honeymoon hotel rome

If you’re considering the romantic city of Roma, Italy for your honeymoon, then look no further than high above the famed Spanish Steps where an elegant little hotel overlooks the sprawling city and welcomes you with warmth and sophistication.  Hotel Hassler is the spot where the stars go (yep, even Clooney) but it’s also home to some lavish destination (and local) weddings and a great spot to honeymoon if you want to see the eternal city.

Hotel Hassler Villa Medici-Roma

The 96 rooms and suites are beautifully designed with European charm, each different from one another, some suiting the more modern couple while others can enjoy more of a nod to the old world.  If you’re not just staying here but celebrating too, I suggest one of the penthouse or presidential rooftop suites so you can entertain on your massive balcony with sights of the entire city (and perhaps even take a dip in your jacuzzi as night falls).

You certainly can’t beat the location, literally steps from the Spanish Steps and the oh-so popular shopping district below (known as the luxury center of the city).  Then when you return from a day of taking in the rich history of the area (and modern shops too), enjoy dinner atop the hotel at Imago, a Michelin-starred restaurant with a seriously creative spin to the Italian food you’ve come to know and love in Rome.

If you’re there in the warmer months of the year, enjoy afternoon cocktails in the courtyard before heading to the library or lounge for light bites.

And don’t forget to indulge in the spa!  With locally sourced products created specifically for and by the hotel, you’ll love the aroma you take with you when you go. luxury hotel rome italy

From five star food and drink to stunning views of this magical city, this is one stop to be sure to hit on your European honeymoon.  Why?  Well, basically, because Hotel Hassler has it all!

An Intimate Destination Wedding in Rome, Italy

rome italy destination wedding

Stephanie and Cody said I do in an intimate ceremony in Rome, Italy for their destination wedding. Stephanie shared with us the special details and decisions from their day – like why they selected the city they did! “I had been to Rome once before and have a being part Italian, fell in love with the city, as many people do. We also wanted a unique wedding location that’s filled with timeless tradition, history, and magnificence all packed into one. Considering our love for travel mixed with a passion for adventure, beauty, and antiquity – we choose Rome, Italy.”

My inspiration and theme for the day was the idea of a quintessential Italian wedding. We selected our color palette to compliment the natural beauty of Italy’s surroundings and the clothing style to match the traditional Italian attire.”

“Other small details include the groom’s made to measure suit and his cufflinks which were passed down from his grandfather and I designed my lace top.”

“I selected my flowers, venue, and dress with elegance, timelessness, and classic Italy in mind. I really wanted the whole look to be ethereal just like the city of Rome.”

We loved the white Fiat 500 that Brenda Babcock, Italia Celebrations, arranged for us. It was so special to ride around the city in a classic Italian car during the day, and receive a champagne toast from the driver at the end of our photo session! She also surprised us by spontaneously requesting a violinist nearby to serenade us during our first look outside our apartment. Our photo session with Rochelle Cheever was an amazing experience as she took us to unique spots all around the city.”

“To top it off, the spectacular dinner on the balcony of the Palazzo Manfredi Aroma restaurant overlooking the Colosseum lit up at night was almost like a dream.”

My advice to other brides who decide to have a destination wedding is to make sure they take care of four major decisions right away. First and foremost decide on the destination. Then, find a dress to fit the setting because the dress takes some time to arrive and get alterations. Next, I recommend hiring a wedding planner especially if you are trying to coordinate details in another country and all the other details will follow nicely. This is essential to successful planning and a stress free day. I highly recommend Italia Celebrations in Italy! You also want to book your photographer at the same time so you can secure the one you want, a talented photographer is a very important aspect of the day and the photos are the memories you can look back on, so don’t skimp on this! Of course, I recommend Rochelle Cheever, her work is artistic and stunning!”

A Roman Holiday – 1st Anniversary in Italy

rome honeymoon ideas

Kristy and Vivek chose Rome as the place to call home for their first anniversary adventure because it had actually been their first dream honeymoon destination.  Kristy shared with us the reasons for this oh-so special trip.  “We choose Rome for our first year anniversary trip as it was at first our dream honeymoon destination – Rome is Vivek’s beloved city as he studied abroad here and for me it would be my first trip to Italia, a trip at the very top of my bucket list. Alas our week full of joyous wedding celebrations (which combined both our Catholic and Hindu traditions) didn’t allow for such post wedding travels – hence it became a celebratory trip for our first anniversary (and something we looked forward to our entire year as newlyweds).”

The pair jetted off from Chicago to Rome where they touched down for a swanky anniversary shoot with Rochelle Cheever Photography.

“All of our accommodations were booked with Starwood Preferred Guest or American Express points. All of our years of travel for work, corporate event planning (Kristy) and having our wedding at a Starwood property (Westin Book Cadillac – Detroit) paid off BIG TIME… now we are busy racking up more points for our next dream adventure…”

And this truly was the trip of a lifetime!  After their stop in Rome, the pair headed to Florence and explored all of Tuscany before their time in Italy came to an end.

Rome, Italy Destination Wedding by Rochelle Cheever

elopements in italy

We love, love, love the city of Rome so it delights my day to see a wedding from our friend, wedding photographer Rochelle Cheever who lives in this wonderful place!  Today’s wedding is a very intimate one – an elopement just for two!

weddings in italy

Chad and Penny selected this special site because of the mix of romance and history perfect for the two of them. “We had always talked about eloping and having our day be as personal and intimate as possible. For us Italy, Rome in particular, was the perfect mix of romance and history bustling with urban charm. The one place in the world where we felt that even dressed in our formal wedding attire surrounded by the fast pace of Rome, we could feel like it was just the two of us.”  For the ceremony?  The historic  and stunning Complesso Vignola Mattei.

“Chad and I talk regularly about our favorite memories of our wedding day. We recall with such fondness the photography adventure with Rochelle. Her vast knowledge of Rome, made for not only a wedding photo shoot but an impromptu tour of Rome and its history. We continue to be in awe of her work and are so thankful each and every time we look at her amazing photos that she was a part of our day.”

As for the bride’s tips to future destination couples?  “If I could give future destination brides any advice it would be to do your research. I spent hours and hours online and corresponding through emails to first fully understand the marriage process in Italy. Once I felt confident I started my vendor research. I contacted multiple references for my various vendors until I felt certain that I could trust these individuals to help make my day perfect. Planning a wedding from so far away can feel like a total leap of faith, which can be unnerving at the best of times. All of my vendors were truly amazing and every detail was taken care of.”

“And who couldn’t mention our wedding dinner. The city views from Imago, the Michelin Star restaurant in the Hotel Hassler coupled with the most amazing dining experience of our lives made for the perfect ending to an already unbeatable day.”
