Villa Destination Wedding Outside of Florence, Italy

tuscany wedding

Natalia and Luke held their destination wedding just outside of Florence in Tuscany, Italy at the beautiful Villa La Ferdinanda di Artimino. Their outdoor ceremony was simply stunning while a grand celebration followed with views for days of the Tuscan countryside. Natalia shared with us the details of their wedding day.

Luke and me are lawyers and we are from the UK. We decided to fulfill our wedding dreams with a destination wedding in Italy because we wanted to say our I do’s in a beautiful location, with good food, wine and a romantic culture and history and soon came to the conclusion that nowhere could be better than in Italy!

For us the exchanged of the vows overlooking the olive trees and wild countryside surrounding the villa with our familie and friends was absolutely the most emotional moment of our wedding day.

The inspiration for the wedding came from me. I’ve a playful personality, I loves colour and couldn’t decide on just one so opted for a rainbow of pastels to be worn by my lovely bridesmaids and displayed in the bouquets and details for the day.

Where to Wed + Honeymoon in Florence, Italy

Salviatino Hotel - Fiesole - Florence – Italy

Looking for the perfect location to wed or honeymoon in Florence, Italy?  Then look no further than Hotel Il Salviatino.  Wow, I mean, wow.  The boutique luxury property is tucked into the woods high above the city, overlooking every beautiful turn of the town and of course the dome of the famed Duomo.  During a recent trip to Italy I got the chance to experience this property firsthand and I can tell you without a doubt that its outdoor reception location is one of the best on earth and you’ll equally fall in love with the rest of the property, include the hotel rooms that are each as unique and different to one another as your weddings.

The villa property is actually a fairly new one to the hotel business, so you get this wonderful old world feel without a rundown or worn out space.  But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have nods to history within it!  With frescos uncovered on the ceilings from centuries past to stone tubs from ancient eras, you get the best of both the old and new worlds in this beautifully appointed place.

For your wedding, I recommend the courtyard gardens.  You can tent the area or enjoy it al fresco as you overlook the lights of Florence.  Secret staircases, ancient passageways and other details will delight your guests as they enjoy and explore this property that is rich in history and layers while you enjoy a five star dining and event experience.  Oh, and did I mention your event also comes with a dedicated wedding planner on property so no detail will be left undone!?!?

Hotel Il Salviatino has the option of a buyout, allowing you and your guests to take over the entire property and have your run of the place with total privacy!  Enjoy the spa by day (do not miss the couples’ room treatments complete with local olive oil blended products), host intimate cocktail parties in one of the greenhouse suites and if the weather permits, enjoy some sun time by the pool after a morning hike through the hills or some shopping in town (complimentary car service to and from will get you the center of town in just a few minutes).

Vintage Wedding Details in Tuscany

Today’s wedding isn’t an actual wedding, but a mock one – a romantic styled shoot created by the team over at Innocenti Studio in Florence, Italy.  The shoot incorporated seasonal winter elements, local accents, and lots of fabulous fashion with a vintage flair!  Emma from Innocenti shared with us the behind the scenes of this could-be big day.

“This styled shoot was inspired by the idea of creating an intimate wedding that felt like it was being celebrated at ‘home’ in a cozy and almost bucolic fashion. The perfect location for this atmosphere was Fattoria La Serra, an early 19th century farmhouse on top of Carmignano hill looking onto Florence’s valley, with a distant view of the Duomo and the Giotto tower.”

“The Bride’s hair and make-up was inspired by the romantic dress. For the hair, Marina choose a soft side chignon and for the make-up warm and subtle tones, with a touch of colour on the lips. The beautiful dress was hand-made with French lace in pale pink and the same fabric was used for the boutonniere on the groom outfit.”

“Alongside a main room and a winter garden, the stone farmhouse has 5 adjacent rooms opening one into another through arches and old wooden doors that creates a sense of intimacy and openness at the same time.  Above all, we wanted to portray a romantic atmosphere, with rustic yet sophisticated details and vintage touches.”

“The wedding table was set in the first room, the kitchen, next to the old wood stove and vintage accessories. We purposely chose a simple setting to recreate a typical Tuscan rustic table accompanied by silver cutlery for added elegance and attention to detail. We opted for the use of lace mixed with recycled materials (cans and bottles), ropes, and porcelain.”

“The colour palette was to use delicate pink and green for the flowers, cooler winter colours for invites and menus, tobacco and natural rope for the table setting and the menu.”

“Stationary, invites and menu were drawn by hand and water-coloured individually.”

“The third room was set for serving tea and cake, with vintage vases and silver teapots used as flower holders and tea served in withe porcelain cups.”

“The flowers were absolutely seasonal: sweet avalance roses, groundsel, wax flowers. The bouquet was romantic, made in the classic round and compact shape with the same flowers, and bound by white lace.”

“In the second room, we used the view from a big window as the backdrop for the main cake and the sweet tables, with macarones, biscuits and Italian almond confetti in white and pink.”

Engagement in Florence, Italy

engagement shoot in florence

Ross and Meg traveled from Los Angeles, CA to one of the most romantic cities in the world, Florence, for their fabulous engagement photo session.  But not before Ross popped the question and completely surprised his bride!  Meg tells us how the special plot all went down.  “Ross had the ring for several months and was waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question.  Originally, we were going to South America but at the last moment he changed plans for Italy.  Everyone asked “Do you think he’ll propose?”  I really had no idea.  Ross is terrible at keeping secrets and usually gets nervous when he’s hiding something so I did not suspect anything.  He kept it together very well.”

When the big moment came to get down on bended knee, he chose New Year’s and timed it perfectly!  “On New Year’s Eve we went to a wonderful dinner at a small mom and pop restaurant in Rome.  Ross was a little antsy but I figured it was jet lag.  He suggested we go for a walk after dinner.  At the stroke of midnight we were standing at the Trevi fountain when he pulled me aside and asked me to marry him.  I was shocked!  Fireworks filled the skyline (and several exploded at our feet which was a little frightening).  It was a true fairytale moment.”

A few days later, the newly engaged couple traveled north to Florence where they would be met by none other than their wedding photographer, Cean One.  This groom came prepared!  And so they began to capture moments that will not only last them a lifetime, but come in very handy in the wedding planning process.  “Our engagement party will be held at the Jonathan Club in May 2012. The entire theme is Italian – from decor to food. Our beautiful photos from Jeremy with Cean One are an absolute blessing. They will be displayed on the walls during the reception. Right place at the right time is an understatement!”

Not only do Meg and Ross have beauty photos of each other, but their trip of a lifetime was documented too.  Such a great idea!

“Our engagement could not have been more perfect. From the trip to Italy, a proposal in Rome, to an engagement shoot in Florence and the excitement and love we are receiving from loved ones, we feel truly blessed. We are enjoying the wedding planning process and look forward to a kickass party!”

These two love birds will tie the knot in Malibu, CA in the summer of 2013.  Congratulations!
