Rustic Chic Destination Wedding in Germany

Katherine and Christoph wed in Freiburg, Germany, a place near to Christoph’s upbringing and a town with beautiful buildings, something that was important to the pair. The bride shared their story with us: Being the architect/engineer couple, we first met at The Empire State Building in New York City… Our first few dates consisted of visiting buildings on Yale’s campus in New Haven and a color photography exhibition at The Whitney Museum because I found out that Christoph was part colorblind. To me that was very interesting and I wanted to know which spectrum of colors he could not see clearly. Throughout the past six years, we have had many challenges that have brought us closer together and made our relationship stronger. After years of long distance from: New york – Uzbekistan, New York – Stuttgart, New York – Hong Kong, we somehow managed to make it through and hope that our experiences will help us as we embark on the next chapter of our lives together.

We are an architect/engineer pair, so for us the building and the environment was very important. As Christoph is from the Black Forest, we chose the Henslerhof for its architectural history, beautiful setting and its proximity to his home. The Henslerhof was built in 1552 in Black Forest barn house style “Schwarzwaldhof” and it represented Christoph’s home.

The inspiration of the decor was The Black Forest Barn. We very much wanted our wedding to be local and personal so we could share Christoph’s home with our overseas friends and family. Katherine is a very DIY hands-on person, so we made most of the decorations ourselves.

Our favorite moment was really every moment of it but if we really had to choose, it would be the coffee and cakes time where we had a little time to really sit down and chat with our loved ones.

We asked the couple for advice for other destination wedding couples: Try to take it one task at a time and take it easy as there will be things that will go wrong, but don’t try too hard to avoid it, just try to embrace it!  No matter what happens, it will be an amazing day.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

White Orchid Wedding Ideas in Germany

germany destination wedding

We’re back with part two of the wedding inspiration shoot in Germany designed by Christiane Zweifler of Flora Nova and her team who wanted to inspire us with some European destination wedding ideas!  We asked Christiane to share with us some of the all white wedding details they created in this spectacular property.

“For the day in the famous “Estate Room” of the castle (accommodating up to 80 guests for a seated reception) we wanted to pair old and new, the historic with the modern. The castle has an overwhelmingly beautiful inventory of centuries-old props you can use for your event there. We simply paired their beautiful inventory with beautiful white orchids – modern and classic at the same time.”

“Using the castle’s own dish and flatware, century old candelabras, hand painted china, gold rimmed crystal goblets, hand stitched table linens we simply used bunches of strikingly beautiful white phaleanopsis to decorate the table.  The white pops in front of the dark wooden furniture and back drop!”

“The matching bridal bouquet of just trailing white phaleanopsis is elegant and sophisticated.”

European Wedding Inspiration in Germany

Today’s shoot comes to us all the way from Germany where Christiane Zweifler of Flora Nova and her team created inspiration for a stunning European destination wedding.  We asked Christiane to explain a bit about what they designed for this could-be big day.  “We picked this location based on beauty and popularity with brides/grooms in the area– Schloss Vollrads is located about 50km west of Frankfurt. Christiane, the stylist of this shoot, grew up near this castle and went to many wine tastings and summer festivals here. The sheer beauty of the rooms, garden, and props available to the couple celebrating here make this a perfect wedding and event space in the area.”

How fabulous is this short wedding dress from Hochzeitshaus Wiesbaden?!  Love!  And the lush floral (and edible) garden-like table decor fit the style perfectly!

“This day of our project we were able to shoot in the world-famous “Leather Wallpaper Room” in the main Manor. Using the castle’s own furniture, props, and table top items we just accompanied the beautiful existing décor with lush centerpieces and bouquets of old English garden roses, antique hydrangea, local greenery, and paired it with old-fashion fruit throughout. Just like out of an old Dutch painting!”
