An Intimate Elopement Shoot at Disney World

destination-wedding-invitation

Today we’ve got a very special shoot from one of our favorite places, Disney World!  This vintage Disney inspired elopement shoot is brought to us by Degrees North Images who clearly shares our love of fairy tales!  They take us to the beachside location of Disney’s Boardwalk for this shoot and here’s what they had to say about the day.

I’m a very nostalgic girl who loves an adventure…and Disney! I used to be a Disney Cast Member and my husband and I got married at Walt Disney World so I have a very soft spot for all things Disney fairytale…because they really do exist! I wanted to create a shoot to inspire couples who reflect that sentiment and I knew the absolute perfect place to do it was at Disney’s Boardwalk and the Beach Club Resort’s beach on Crescent Lake.

Elopements aren’t what they used to be. With wedding costs rising, a lot of couples are bucking the modern tradition of the big white wedding to truly craft a day that’s all about them! Couples that decide to elope are inviting close family, buying a dress, and even traveling to epic destinations. I wanted to celebrate those daringly romantic and special couples and with the help of Yasmen Katrina Events, we were able to design a classic, vintage elopement inspiration at the Happiest Place on Earth! Walt Disney World has been hosting weddings on their property for decades now, but a lot of couples (and their families) still think a Disney wedding is too expensive and that it could even be a little hokie. Sure, if you want Mickey and Minnie to attend, you can have that, but if you’re looking for something a little more subtle, you can have that too…and this is the proof!

Our adorable stationary suit from Stone Werks set the tone. The carnival style matched the Coney Island vibe of the Boardwalk and the included ticket invited guests to come for the embarrassing speeches and joy! Our real life, newly engaged couple Kristine and Nicholas couldn’t wait to see the day unfold!

We definitely wanted to keep with the vintage theme so we opted for a short dress. The Justin Alexander gown from Casa di Bella and the vintage inspired hairstyle beautifully sculpted by Laura Reynolds Artistry made our bride, Kristine, look like she was straight out of 1940! We literally all gasped when we saw her! To add some classic Disney into her look, we adorned her with matching Minnie Mouse bow earrings and necklace. Nicholas was festive in suspenders and bow tie. The Flower Studio pulled colors from the buildings lining the Boardwalk and constructed a quirky, modern bouquet and bout and By Brittany Branson hand painted a set of Just Eloped canvases for our couple to announce the news! The canvases even feature some “hidden Mickeys”! In the spirit of a romantic, adventurous elopement, our couple celebrated with a morning picnic at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, just across Crescent Lake from the “historic” boardwalk. That’s Darlin’ assembled a beautiful basket complete with blanket, fruit, sodas and some sweet treats! Adventuring with your one true love is the most romantic, fun story you could ever share with future generations. A little Disney magic ensures it’ll be the best day ever!

Italian Honeymoon Photo Shoot

europe-honeymoons

Today we’ve got an elopement inspired shoot, ideal for a wedding for two or honeymoon in Italy!  The photo shoot took place in Ischia where the models went for a swim, were spotted out on a boat, and got to explore the town streets together.  Art of Perfection Events shared this shoot with us and here’s what they had to say about their idea.

Magical. Enchanting. Timeless. That’s exactly what it feels like to attend a destination wedding in Italy. About twenty minutes from the mainland of Naples, Italy there are three exclusive Italian Islands: Ischia, Procida, and Capri. These are dreamlike locations that are full of vibrant colors, authentic architecture and natural volcanic thermal spas.

This past summer, we photographed and videographed these beautiful islands and surrounding waters to capture the most realistic setting for a destination Italy wedding like no other. We created this photoshoot to showcase to brides-to-be how beautiful getting married in Italy can be with the right event planner. With hints of white and blue and accents of silver accessories, our color palette was stunning. This natural looking palette was inspired by the beautiful colorful hues provided by Mother Nature and the beauty of Italy.

Our photographer, Gennaro Cimmino and our videographer, Francesco Rocco, produced gorgeous pieces of our adventure around the Italian Islands of Ischia and Procida, which I have attached so you can envision the beauty and romance of a couple diving into love and the clear waters of the Mediterranean.

How to Get Married in France

elopements in france

Today we take you all the way to Europe to look at what getting married in France looks like for those of you considering a destination wedding or elopement in this oh-so romantic country.  To get the 411, we chatted with French wedding planner and officiant who is an expert at all things saying “I do” in the country, Pierre-Henri Therond of Love Gracefully.  We asked him how to wed, how to elope, and how to infuse the romance of the country into your big day and here’s what he had to say.

JF: What does it take to legally get married in France?

PT: France is a secular country, so no religious minister can legally marry you. The only person who can legally marry a couple in France is a French state official. He or she is always the mayor of the city in which you live in. So, if you don’t live in France, you can get married in France but you’ll need to prove residency for 40 days in a row in the city in which you want to get married. All the paper work has to be done in French, so you’ll need a bilingual lawyer to help you go thru the process. And patience…

JF: What are some great alternatives to legally tying the knot there?

PT: Since it’s a real pain to go thru the entire legal process, all foreign couples get legally married in their own country and, then, come to France to celebrate a symbolic ceremony! A symbolic non-legal ceremony can be done in a church by an American priest such as the American Church in Paris but what most couples prefer is to tie the knot outdoors, amongst the free exquisite romantic locations that Paris has to offer, with a secular celebrant. The idea here is to celebrate a real personalized ceremony that matches the couple’s values and beliefs mixed with the French romanticism. The ice on the cake being the French accent of the celebrant…

JF: What are your favorite spots for a destination wedding in Paris or across France?

PT: In Paris, the 2 most popular spots are the garden of the Eiffel Tower and the garden of Notre-Dame’s Cathedral. I enjoy them both very much but there are other locations such the garden of the Luxembourg garden that has tons of flowers all over or the garden of the Rodin Museum that would be my favorite for it’s gorgeous sculptures. Outside of Paris, the French Riviera will always be my favorite spot. The landscape and the sea, the villas and the sunlight produce magic. There, I celebrate a lot of ceremonies in the city of Nice, on a hill overviewing the entire bay and city; a dream view for a magic kiss…

eloping in paris

JF: What are some creative ideas you’ve executed to make a destination wedding feel infused with the local culture?

PT: French are known to be romantic. I can’t explain why it’s like that but romanticism will be all over my writing…And since I write only personalized ceremonies, I always create a new text specially made for that particular couple and, therefore, am naturally creative with my writing. So, my text will be full of French quotes, using a rhythm and a poetry that triggers love in the heart of people. Also, with my French accent, you know you are in France. I don’t know why but it has a deep impact for the people who hear it, a bit like their heart melts…

JF: Favorite places to stay in Paris for the honeymoon or night of the wedding?

PT: Nothing looks more like a hotel than another hotel, so my recommendation is to choose and hotel that convey that uniqueness you are looking for. Literally in front of the Eiffel Tower, the Shangri-Là Hotel would be my favorite; imagine being in bed with the Eiffel Tower at your window…If you have less of a budget, the Terrass Hotel is on top of Montmartre, the only mountain in Paris, so they have suites that overlook the entire city. And if you prefer being the heart of old Paris, in a very homey environment, the hotel Pavillon de la Reine is a must, in front of the gorgeous Place des Vosges to feel like a queen…

Tuscany, Italy Bridal Portrait Photo Shoot

tuscany wedding

Today’s shoot is a little something different.  Taken in beautiful Tuscany, at the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, this bridal portrait session was a destination experience for one lucky bride.  Katie and Phil were married six months earlier in Bluemont, Virginia but when the opportunity arose for Katie to put her dress back on, the obvious answer was yes!

tuscany weddings

We asked Katie how this shoot came to be.  “I decided to do this shoot because when your dearest friend invites you to Montalcino, Italy on a photo shoot, you don’t turn her down! It was the best! I got to travel with a friend, see an incredible country, and get some pictures that I will cherish forever. I loved my wedding dress, and it took me a while to track it down in my size – I am so thankful I got to wear it when I married my best friend, and that I got to romp around Italy in it.”

And as for selecting the locations?  “I have the best photographer. She sees potential and scenes and inspiration all over the place. My favorite thing is that she knows me well enough to know what suits me and how to capture me, in my element. She chose spots that I think were not only gorgeous landscapes, but they suited me. She captured me, being me. I think that is my favorite part of these portraits – they’re not just posed pictures, she captures moments of my life and my story. We shot in two different locations, and each were places we both saw and thought “THIS IS IT!” The first location was the Biondi-Santi Villas in Montalcino, Tuscany which is the property where we stayed for the week, and the second was The Abbey of Sant’Antimo.  The location in front of the Monastery, we literally made our driver make a trek back and forth over a mountain a couple of times because we had to have photos there – I think he thought we were crazy. But you can see there was a method to our madness! The spot was just too perfect! Between the stone on the abbey, the incredible scenery, and the fields of red poppies, we couldn’t pass it up.”

Such a great idea to get moments without the stress of the wedding day schedule.  And a great excuse to get away too!

Tips for other couples?  “I’d suggest finding a photographer you love and trust and finding a place you’re comfortable. I’m all about pictures that capture you – Jessie couldn’t have done a better job at that! I’m thankful I have those memories captured in print.”

Rome, Italy Destination Wedding by Rochelle Cheever

elopements in italy

We love, love, love the city of Rome so it delights my day to see a wedding from our friend, wedding photographer Rochelle Cheever who lives in this wonderful place!  Today’s wedding is a very intimate one – an elopement just for two!

weddings in italy

Chad and Penny selected this special site because of the mix of romance and history perfect for the two of them. “We had always talked about eloping and having our day be as personal and intimate as possible. For us Italy, Rome in particular, was the perfect mix of romance and history bustling with urban charm. The one place in the world where we felt that even dressed in our formal wedding attire surrounded by the fast pace of Rome, we could feel like it was just the two of us.”  For the ceremony?  The historic  and stunning Complesso Vignola Mattei.

“Chad and I talk regularly about our favorite memories of our wedding day. We recall with such fondness the photography adventure with Rochelle. Her vast knowledge of Rome, made for not only a wedding photo shoot but an impromptu tour of Rome and its history. We continue to be in awe of her work and are so thankful each and every time we look at her amazing photos that she was a part of our day.”

As for the bride’s tips to future destination couples?  “If I could give future destination brides any advice it would be to do your research. I spent hours and hours online and corresponding through emails to first fully understand the marriage process in Italy. Once I felt confident I started my vendor research. I contacted multiple references for my various vendors until I felt certain that I could trust these individuals to help make my day perfect. Planning a wedding from so far away can feel like a total leap of faith, which can be unnerving at the best of times. All of my vendors were truly amazing and every detail was taken care of.”

“And who couldn’t mention our wedding dinner. The city views from Imago, the Michelin Star restaurant in the Hotel Hassler coupled with the most amazing dining experience of our lives made for the perfect ending to an already unbeatable day.”
