Destination Wedding in Australia

Lauren and Chris wed in Australia, the country in which they live but they traveled to the town of Daylesford to tie the knot at the Sault Restaurant. Lauren shared with us the story behind their big day:

Our main priority was to not let our wedding day stress us out. We knew that it was going to be one of the most important and memorable days of our lives, but we didn’t want that to get in the way of us making the most of it and having an amazing time! We also wanted to ensure that our friends and family were happy, feeling comfortable and having fun of course. After all, this was a celebration of love so we wanted to bring everyone together to celebrate just that!

For Chris and my one year anniversary, he took me away for a weekend in Daylesford. I had never been to the town before and instantly fell in love with how relaxing and quaint it was! We stayed in a beautiful boutique hotel and ate some of the most delicious meals we’ve ever tried in our life that weekend. The time we spent in Daylesford is some of the fondest memories that I have with Chris, which made choosing our wedding location a breeze! We visited a few different potential venues when we started planning our wedding, but as soon as we arrived at Sault I knew that it was perfect! We both wanted an outdoor rustic themed wedding, and Sault provided us with a flawless backdrop from Lavender and greenery.

Chris and I are both very laid back people who love spending time outdoors! If given the choice we would always choose vintage and wood over modern and glitz. When we look at lifestyle, from our clothing to the interior in our apartment, we knew that a vintage/rustic theme would best reflect our personality as a couple. We wanted to have a wedding that we wouldn’t look back at photos of in 50 years and cringe at our decoration choices; therefore neutral, natural and vintage elements were all used to hopefully produce a timeless wedding.

To me, our wedding was absolutely flawless! The look and feel on the day was relaxed and rustic. All of our family and friends seemed to be having an amazing time, and I couldn’t have imagined it going any more perfectly. To be honest, I wouldn’t change a thing!

For our honeymoon Chris and I ventured off to Spain. I had never been before and always wanted to visit Ibiza before we started thinking about settling down and having kids. Chris had visited Spain twice before so he knew all of the best restaurants and beaches to go to, I was in absolute heaven! Returning home was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do!

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Vintage Beach Wedding on Cabarita Beach, Australia

best destination wedding photographer

Ryan and Claire held their intimate beach wedding on Cabarita Beach in Australia with 80 of their friends and family by their sides to bear witness. Claire shared their big day story with us and how this special venue become home to their wedding day.

“Ryan had been surfing at Fingal and had mentioned to some mates that we were looking for the perfect wedding location on the Tweed coast. They told Ryan that Kingscliff, Casuarina & Cabarita were all beautiful places on the North Coast. So we took a drive down south & checked out all those spots as well as Hastings Point & Pottsville and hands down Cabarita took the cake with such an awesome headland (Norries Headland), rolling waves, large rocks & a beach that stretched as far as the eye could see. We knew that this was the spot we wanted to get married and share with all our family & friends.

We also decided on Cabarita Beach as the Tweed Council had no limit on guest numbers for a park/beach ceremony and allowed us 3hrs for setup, ceremony and pack up. Gold Coast Council, which was closer to where we lived, only allowed up to 50 guests and one hour total, which did not suit us.”

“Our photographer Mitchell Carlin was referred to us by a friend of Claire’s, who was also planning her wedding. We first met Mitch at a local beach café, all three of us were relaxed & enjoying a chat over a coffee, immediately we knew this guy loved his work, hearing the words he chose to describe what he did for a living, you could tell that it was a serious passion of his & a medium for his artistic side to spill it’s colour onto paper. We had to have him capture our day!

On the day of our wedding Mitch chose his vantage points without getting in the way of the any of the proceedings whilst still getting the angles that made for really amazing photos. He took time before the wedding to scout out the perfect spot for the Couple & Bridal Party photos & we were all in awe of the places he found. Mitch’s cool, calm approach, along with his passion for photography really translated into the beautiful shots we now have to look back on from our perfect day.”

We wanted a very relaxed atmosphere for the ceremony and reception. We started looking for furniture style ideas and fell in love with the rustic/vintage look. Claire had a vast collection of both our grandmothers’ doilies that we wanted to incorporate into our table settings and our style grew from there. Claire started researching hand made decorations and found a lot of satisfaction and joy crafting our own unique pieces including place cards/thank you cards, seating plan board, table numbers, cake topper, glitter garlands, and the list goes on… We had help from good friends and family on the day, which made the day even more special.”

We asked the bride for advice for future engaged couples. Relax, have fun and don’t sweat the small stuff! Add as much ‘personal touch’ as you can. Let family and friends help where they can, it will make your day extra special. Stay true to your vows, work hard through all of life’s hardships together & always remember the day you said “I do”.

Melbourne, Australia Bridal Portraits Shoot

australia destination wedding

Today’s shoot is a little different – it’s not actually from the couple’s wedding but their traveling portrait shoot that they embarked on with photographer, Andrew Yep.  Billy and Pooi Sann decided to capture this special time in their lives with a few fabulous wardrobe changes and some stops to several very special places in Melbourne, Australia.

The bride and groom shared with us the idea behind the images and how the location was selected.  “We always knew that we wanted to have our wedding photo taken in a place that meant something to us and that was unique in its own way. Hence, we chose Melbourne which was the first place where we travelled abroad together. This place brings back plentiful of beautiful memories where we met 4 years ago, which pass-by just like a blink of an eye. We asked our friend, Andrew Yep as our wedding photographer and we spent about a few days to do the shoot. It was raining most of the time when we reached Melbourne but luckily the rain cleared and the blue sky appeared with rays of beautiful and warm sunlight which really did a lot of good with our shoot.”

“On the first day, we started shooting at Yarra Valley. The relatively cool climate really helps in making us more relax and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole session. After that, we headed to St Kilda in the evening to catch the beautiful sunset at the beach. Andrew really knows how to take advantage of each and every multi-colored sunset at the beach. We fell in love with St Kilda beach on our first trip to Melbourne. To us, it’s a little piece of heaven on earth.”

“On the second day, we went in and around Melbourne’s CBD area to look for beautiful spots. We wrapped up our photo shoot at night by the Yarra River. We will never forget how incredibly romantic that night was for us.”

New South Wales, Australia Destination Wedding on the Beach

new south wales destination wedding

Melanie and Stuart wed in New South Wales, Australia in an intimate and vintage inspired destination wedding to Oz.  Their wedding photographer, Hilary Cam shared with us their story that spans the globe!  “This is a love story that covers many countries, Stuart is from England, Melanie is from Australia, they met in Canada and were engaged in New York and they had a destination wedding in a country town in rural Australia.”

“We had a unique groom’s prep in the morning, rather than the classic shots of suits and ties Stuart wanted a more apt prep for a beach setting and so we headed to the beach with his groomsmen who had all travelled from the UK. Stuart got more of Boomerang Beach than he bargained for when he was thrown in the water by his groomsmen.”

“Melanie was one of the most fun brides I have every photographed, the entire morning she didn’t stop smiling and laughing, genuinely excited and thrilled about the day. The couple’s wedding stationery (designed by the groom) – features a kookaburra and a robin holding a love heart – symbolic of an Australian and an Englishman falling in love. As we set up detail shots we were all surprised when a kookaburra flew down to take a closer look at the wedding shoes.”
