A Swanky St. Thomas Wedding Full of Color

Kate and Alex wed on the island of St. Thomas, a beautiful destination on it’s way to being rebuilt after the recent hurricanes. Resident destination wedding planners, Island Style Weddings assisted the pair in tying the knot on location with ease and the couple shared their experiences with us.

We chose to have a destination wedding in St. Thomas because we wanted to spend time with our closest family and friends.  We loved everyone being in one location and planned multiple events for our guests to mingle, have fun and celebrate.

We wanted the décor to be fun, bright and as personal as possible. Alex’s favorite color is orange and we both love bright vibrant colors and stripes. So, we went with a preppy, nautical, colorful vibe that fit our personalities. Mary and Brenda (Island Style Weddings) were able to take our vision and make it cohesive and beautiful.

We asked the couple about their favorite moments from the big day.

Kate: After the ceremony Alex and I took some time alone to take photos. It allowed us to celebrate together and bask in the moment of “Woah, we’re married. We did it!” Some of my favorite photos are the candid ones Savannah captured of us during that time, because you see how truly happy we are to be husband and wife.

Alex: Mine was definitely seeing Kate for the first time walk down the stairs to the ceremony. They had me facing away from her and facing the ocean until she got to the top of the stairs. Once they told me to turn around I looked up and there she was, my (soon-to-be) wife!

Mary and Brenda were the best wedding planners we could have asked for! They took our vision of a fun, relaxed, colorful wedding and made it come together flawlessly. Every detail for every event was perfect! Planning a wedding, yet alone a destination wedding can easily become overwhelming. Mary and Brenda are experienced and have wonderful relationships with vendors, so we felt at ease. They really listened and understood who we are as a couple. They were able to take a few inspiration photos and create a magical wedding. Because of Mary and Brenda we were able to enjoy a stress free week and celebrate with our friends and family.

Advice for future destination wedding couples?

Definitely hire a wedding planner. The reason to have a destination wedding is to enjoy time with friends and family. We were able to do so because of Mary and Brenda. I’d also arrive a few days earlier, so you can meet with your planner, visit the venue, finalize details etc. That way when your guests arrive, you won’t be stressed and can actually have fun.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!
