Cliffside Destination Wedding in Pescadero, Baja, Mexico

best wedding photographer mexico

Mey and Jason said “I do” at their intimate destination wedding at the beautiful cliffside property of Arriba de la Roca, located in Pescadero, Mexico, about 45 minutes outside of Cabo.  Not long after the hurricane, 18 friends and family traveled with the Texas couple to a place very near and dear to their hearts.  And the bride and groom shared their wonderful story with us!

“We fell in love with Todos Santos, Mexico 3 years ago after trying a random Living Social coupon.  It is unspoiled beauty with unmatched hospitality  – minus the crowds and commercialization.”

“We specifically chose Arriba de la Roca because of the owners’ story.  Shelby and Maurico left corporate America and poured their life savings into building a boutique hotel. You can’t help but feel the love emanating from their property – and feel good about being a part of their dream. A testament to how we know we chose the right place? We had our wedding about a month and a half after the largest hurricane to ever make landfall in Baja California’s history devastated the area – and we owe our ability to be able to have our dream wedding in Todos Santos due to Shelby’s and Maurcio’s hard work.”

Jason’s favorite moment:  “Our first look was absolutely my favorite moment.  The sensory overload was indescribable – from the sun setting on the Pacific on one side – the majestic Sierra Lagunas on the other side – and then Mey in her beautiful dress.  I hate to be clichéd but I lost it…masculinity aside, I couldn’t help but feel like the luckiest guy in the world because she picked me.”

“Our inspiration was our relationship (and how it started unconventionally) and the location of the wedding.  We wanted to make sure that it was romantic and intimate and elegant but still laid back and unforced.  It was important that our wedding was not cookie-cutter and many of the details were very symbolic of who we are and what we enjoy. For example, our “sign-in” was a surfboard because Jason was a surfer. Our table numbers were framed photos of our guests, who were our closest friends and family. Our knot-tying ceremony was a nod to Jason’s time in the Navy. We opted for a bonfire with s’mores instead of dancing so we could enjoy time on the beach with our friends.”

Mey’s favorite moment: “I loved surprising Jason with the Mariachi band.  While I hate Mariachi and already told him no – our wedding planner and I schemed to make it happen.  The pure joy on my husband’s face was unforgettable!  He was like a kid on Christmas morning.”

“The best advice we can give is to have an amazing wedding planner!  While some may balk at the cost, it is absolutely worth it so you can enjoy the entire process.  Having a talented and patient wedding planner to coordinate with vendors who do not necessarily operate (or respond) to type-A expectations and to handle all the details so you can just enjoy the wedding was priceless.  From coordinating travel arrangements of guests to helping purchase/bring items and of course, running the show on the day of, our wedding planner took care of all the details so we could focus on the big picture.  Our wedding planner even presented us with a back-up to have a wedding in San Diego once we found out about the hurricane.  We owe our dream come true to our wedding planner, Sarah Kee.”

Destination Wedding at Esperanza Resort in Cabo San Lucas

wedding hotels cabo san lucas

Jamie and Paul said I do in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where friends and family flew in for their fabulous destination wedding. The couple met in 2009 in Southern California but decided to call Mexico home when it came time for their big day. Paul shared with us a few details from the day from the groom’s perspective. “We had always talked about doing a destination wedding, and when we started looking at places that we personally loved, Cabo was high on the list.  And then, we selected Esperanza because the place that we met was also named Esperanza, so we fell in love with the name and then when we visited the resort we were sold – it was perfect.”

And what better way to kick off their destination wedding in Mexico than with these adorable “Hola Amigo” welcome bags for their wedding guests!

Paul’s favorite moment from that perfect day? “I would say Jamie walking down the aisle was my personal favorite, but I think collectively when we were at our sweetheart table looking out over our friends and family and realizing what an amazing day it was and how fortunate we are.”

Jamie and Paul’s wedding planner, Fatima Falcon explained some of the décor elements that were personal to the bride and groom. “The planning process was smooth and I enjoyed greatly planning their wedding decor and details, which were inspired by the Paul’s last name (King) and Jamie’s favorite color.  The wedding day couldn’t have turned out better!  The weather was just perfect, the wedding setup as planned, the wedding group was in an amazing and positive mood, I could tell everyone really enjoyed the wedding day, with lots of energy, smiles and dancing!”

What about the newlyweds’ advice for couples still in the planning stages of their wedding? “If you are debating whether or not to do a destination wedding – DO IT.  Make sure you have enough time before the wedding to spend time with your friends and family, but make it relaxing and low key – and remember have fun!”

A Colorful Cabo Destination Wedding

cabo san lucas destination wedding

Gaby and Ryan opted for a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where friends and family would fly in for the fun, festive and oh-so colorful festivities! Their wedding planner, Vari Avila of Allure Event shared the planning process of this picture-perfect day with us. The couple knew they wanted to wed in Cabo, but in the beginning, didn’t know exactly where.

“Armed with information on 4 different venues to choose from, Gaby and I toured the first three venues and while all seemed great, there was something missing.

We arrived at Hacienda Cocina late in the day and as soon as we drove into the property I saw Gaby’s demeanor change – her face lit up and she became giddy with excitement. After touring the venue, we sat down to chat over margaritas and ceviche verde and Gaby finally confirmed what I knew all along, she loved everything about Hacienda Cocina and thought it would be the perfect venue for their intimate wedding celebration only a few months later.”

“The bride wore a gorgeous Reem Acra ivory gown with beaded lace and paired the dress with deep red glitter pumps and stunning deep blue drop earrings – Gaby was the epitome of femininity on her wedding day!”

“Gaby and Ryan decided on a fall color scheme of coral, orange, deep red and yellow with hints of purple and blue which complemented the beach setting beautifully.”

“For the ceremony on the beach, we chose to create a traditional ceremony setting by using ivory chapel benches with coral cushions for guest seating. The bride and groom stood under a simple canopy made with Torote tree branches as the groom’s father officiated the ceremony. Décor and color were purposely kept minimal to allow the surroundings and the sparkling Sea of Cortez to take center stage.”

“After the ceremony, guests were greeted with delicious cocktails and canapés and were serenaded by an acoustic guitarist as the sun was setting.”

“Gaby loves flowers and favors garden style arrangements so with the help of our fantastic florist, Lola del Campo, we created medium size arrangements for the reception tables that were full of movement and visual interest. Paired with gold vases, mercury glass votives, coral tablecloths and crystal chandeliers over the dance floor, the setting was truly romantic and ultra-feminine.”

Considering Cabo for your destination wedding?  Then look no further than these two lovebirds for a little wedding inspiration from the sand!  One of our faves from the year!

Katya and Everett wanted a whimsical beach wedding with vintage touches when they set out to plan their perfect destination wedding. They touched down in Mexico for their final destination as Katya explained the personal significance of the locale to us. “We got engaged in Playa del Carmen on a beach with champagne & strawberries! So it made perfect sense to us to have a destination wedding in Mexico. We chose Los Cabos because we travel there regularly and we wanted our guests to enjoy it a much as we do. And we wanted to have a real party for them!”

“I have so many memories but Everett’s surprise for me was very special. He asked our band to learn a Russian song and perform it in Russian as well. The song’s name “Those were the days”. It is a memorable song to us as for one of our anniversaries we went to Teatro Zinzzani in San Francisco and there was a Russian theatrical troupe performing the very same song in both English and Russian.”
